Hey Guys! Happy FRIDAY THE 13TH!! I decided as a weekly motivation to post blogs more often, I'm going to be posting "Profile Friday's"!!! Every other Friday or so will be a profile on someone I interviewed that week! You all can get to know them and follow them on social media, I promise... new friends are awesome! Plus... what an easy way for me to make new friends and get to know them! This first one goes out to my roomie, Ally Sutherland-Horton. Ally comes from a long ways away... somewhere very distant and remote.... North Carolina! She's in her first quarter at FIDM just like me... hence the fact she's my roommate. Her major is Digital Media. She wants to be an animator for Disney after she graduates, which is so cool! She's currently saving up for a monthly Disney Land pass... can you say goals?? During my interview with Ally, she was bubbly as always and happy to answer my questions. "[Life in LA] is amazing. It's incredible. I love everything about it." Everything meaning her roommates, apartment, the freedom...the whole thing. Ally describes herself as getting to know the area of downtown LA but sometimes she knows exactly where she's going with confidence, whether it be FIDM or her sisters apartment or even The Last Bookstore (which she walked over 20 minutes just to get to!) "I really miss my family, my friends... and my dog." She says she misses her families presence and even though she enjoys the freedom of coming and going to do what she needs to do, she will probably always miss her family because she isn't used to it. I think it's normal for any normal college student to be homesick for a while. On that note, college for Sutherland-Horton seems to be just the experience she hoped for. "[While in school] I'm joining student council and I'm already a FIDM Social Ambassador. Basically what it is, is promoting the school and getting students get involved. You are the voice and image of the school, so when new students come in, you show them what it's about and what it's like." Sutherland describes college as "amazing". She loves her freedom and she believes that at FIDM you get more freedom than if you went to a regular university. " There aren't any dorms so you aren't as interactive with other students but you are in the middle of downtown LA you could kinda do whatever you want when you're not in class." On top of her extracurriculars, Ally even plans to get a job. "I just interviewed for Cafe FIDM for a work study and I hope to be employed by early next week." FIDM jobs are a good network, plus you get to meet so many fellow students. To fulfill her college experience and do one stereotypical thing, she might go to student events on the weekends like maybe a tailgate and game at another school like USC. Moving on to hobbies and moments in her life, Ally has been to 3 Coldplay concerts, two of which just happened over this last weekend. She loves any of their songs and is a true fan. She said, "I loved every one and each one was special in it's own way." Last but not least, Ally wants to go on a date by the end of her first year at FIDM. Did ya hear that? Boys, you better step up! It was fun getting to know Ally better as well as bonding over the questions. Down below are the links to all her social medias, be sure to follow her and maybe even make a new friend out of her! She's loving, kind, smart , and funny. Special thanks, ally for letting me get all up in your business and especially for being an amazing roomie (: Ally's favorite quote: You the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. - Charlie Chaplin

Edit: This is a long overdue post, I started it but never finished it. Cheers to procrastination!
Today was my first day at fidm! I mean... technically. It was orientation but it was technically my first official day as a student. Let me tell you now, life as a FIDM student won't be easy, I can already tell. Waking up at 7 am to get ready and look actually presentable for school wasn't even the hard part. It was sitting through all those long presentations. Not to say they weren't interesting or informational... I was just really really tired. I kid you not, over three times in one presentation... I dozed off. Not to mention I stayed up til 1 the night before... oops? dozing off was NOT my idea of a good orientation. So it slowly made my day drag on slow and torturous. After the initial "Welcome to FIDM" introduction, we split up to meet with the director of our majors. I am a Visual Communications major, for those of you who don't know, VCOMM is very hands-on and creative. It also leads to many different jobs! I want to pursue a career of a stylist but that is a hard job so I would always like to be an Event Planner, like for weddings and fashion shows. Anyways, I almost cried of despair because I was so so so tired. It was all interesting and informational, but honestly... I don't remember most of it due to my in and out sleeping. To make matters worse, I was in the same room all day. I didn't get the chance to go downstairs or to a different classroom to wake up a bit. For being there from 9-12:30 then having an hour lunch just to go back until 4... I was so over college already haha! Not to mention I barely met any new people because I was so miserable with my energy level. Needless to say, day one of orientation was not my piece of cake. More on my FIDM experience later (; |
