Heyyyy Guys! I'm back and ready to dive into all your deep burning desire questions about FIDM since this past March I.... GRADUATED. I know, I know... crazy right?! the relaunch of this blog literally started right before I moved to LA. I mean look at me and the first day I was here ↓↓↓ What a baby. What a naive girl who had no idea what amazing things were in store for her. I just redid my entire site and hopefully you'll all love this as much as me. It's just a little more pleasing on the eye... or at least mine. Anyways, since I moved here, I have gotten tons of questions from those of you interested in coming to FIDM or even just curious how different it is here. I decided to compile all those questions into a blog for you all to read whoever is curious or interested. Q: How did you get accepted to FIDM? A: I applied as a junior in high school with FIDM's early acceptance program. I originally applied for Merchandise Marketing and created a YouTube video & presentation to go along with my business campaign for a mock store I created. I styled 5 outfits according to a theme! The link is actually on my "Album" Page here on this site. Check it out! Q: Was it scary moving to LA? A: Funny story. I wasn't scared. I was so excited to start college. It felt right and perfect that I was moving here. It was hard leaving my boyfriend, family, and friends, but I knew that at that point I had to choose the path I needed. It didn't even set in that I actually moved 2 states away until my mom and dad were already half way back to Washington driving. That's when I was like... oh shit. hahaha. I have to admit I got really homesick that first quarter. Both my roommate and I even thought about dropping out and transferring out because we didn't know what the right choice was for us. But deep down we both knew we needed to stay. Q: What's your favorite part of going to college in LA? A: I loved how FIDM is literally in the middle of everything. It's in downtown LA which meant there was stores, grocery stores, people, museums, and everything at the tip of my fingers. On a wider scale, Downtown is a happy medium between West Hollywood, Glendale, Santa Monica, And Disneyland! Q: What's your major? A: My major was Visual Communications. Classes include: Drawing, Window Displays, Social Media, Set Design, Adobe Photoshop & More, and Fashion Styling. It's a really broad major. Q: What's your favorite class you took? A: Ugh.... so hard to choose. I literally was in love with Materials & Props which is a 6 hour class. Our entire project of the quarter was to created a scale model set of a movie of our choosing with a group. My group chose Blade Runner 2049. I was super proud of it. A close second class is Layout & Design. We learned Adobe Indesign and created our own magazine layout. I loved how creative it let me be! Q: How is the quarter system like at FIDM? I loved the quarter system honestly. 10-11 weeks of focusing in one class which was more than enough time to cover everything. It also gave us 2-3 week breaks between each quarter that I could go visit home or just relax and rewind. It meant that we had each class once a week for 3 hours. It made my schedule so open and adjustable. Q: What is the worst part of FIDM? A: Honestly, the worst part was being away from family and friends. I miss that food my grandma would cook everyday. Ugh... that's the worst lol. In all seriousness, I can't think of one. Maybe the homework load. But then again, it couldn't have been so bad, I got everything done and did so with pride. It's just a lot if you don't know how to manage time. OH and how in some classes they make you buy additional supplies out of pocket. Sounds fine right, try spending almost $20 on every class you have. (5). That's $100 out of pocket even though you're paying thousands just to go to this school. But then again. that was my major. I know fashion design is like that too but I'm not sure about other majors. Q: Do you wish it was like a regular university? A: NO. I am SO GLAD it's not like a regular university. I can sacrifice frats/ sororities/ sports/ lack of boys for this school. When I said general eds earlier, the general eds are so focused towards making sure the creative mind won't be too bored with the class. My math professor taught us things that weren't on the syllabus, but only because it's relevant to us being adults and having to deal with taxes and such. Instead of geometry... useless. Yes, at first I was like wow I wish FIDM had sporting events to go to or parties, but literally... USC is right down the road. I got all my fun in from that. Anyways, those were just some of the most asked questions I got while I attended FIDM. I am so happy I chose FIDM. LA has changed me for the better and I am so excited to see what opportunities are to come in the future. I hope this helped you learn a little more about what FIDM is all about! As always, love you all so much. XOXO,
